Heartwarming Highs & Hair-Raising Lows: My Day as a Mom

The rollercoaster of a day in the life of motherhood.

Upon getting ready to walk out the door this morning I realized we must have lost a shoe yesterday on the walk home from the grocery store. They were literally brand new and hadn’t even been walked in yet! It’s so dumb, but I immediately felt like a failure.

Now at the park we sit down to have a picnic. I get to sit back with Gloria beneath a beautiful willow tree with the wind softly blowing while I watch my son with absolute delight. I see him using his strength and courage to climb and balance himself for the very first time while simultaneously socializing with all the big kids. I just cannot stop laughing with joy.

Next back at home Gloria decides to break into song and sings sings sings while bouncing to practically leap out of her seat. Again, so much joy.

After nap times, the whole family sets out for a walk with no plans, just adventure. We find ourselves at the flea market. Just as we walk in, a taxi doesn’t see us and literally nearly runs my children over. I proceed to loose any sense of self image and scream at the top of lungs at him staring him down and waving my arms. Not my finest moment.

Took a few minutes to cool down.

We commence the fun after I composed myself. Gloria starts singing once again without end.

Back home, Emmaus wanted to help with dinner so I give him a few stalks of kale and a bowl while I made a salad. Next thing I know, he and the bowl are gone…but wait, the bowl and the kale are actually on the table! Along with forks for everyone. Emmaus!

Come dinner time, Emmaus didn’t even touch his pizza because he was too busy eating his kale, yes KALE, salad. With a mouth full of kale completely unprompted he says “thank you momma, cute!”

Every day is filled with moments that melt my heart and melt my pride. Such a gift. So thankful I’m here.

COMMENT FROM ELLIOT: “That taxi moment—I'm pretty sure we both discovered a new tone in life—that God-given instinct reserved for taking down a bear. We've got it. I'm pretty sure we both gave that driver an important impression that day.”
