FAQs

Why study at Oxford?

The Theologian N. T. Wright is one of the primary reasons I applied to study at Oxford. Access to Wright and the staff at Wycliffe Hall is an extremely rare opportunity to explore questions and develop as a scholar.

What courses will you take?

I intend to read and write for Doctrine, Context, and Practice; The Use of the Bible; Mission in the Modern World; the Experiential Project with Theological Reflection. I will conclude the degree with a 15-20,000 word dissertation.

How long will you be there?

We intend to stay in Oxford until graduation, Summer of 2025..

Where will you be staying?

We are currently living in friend’s flat located a mere 5 minute walk from Wycliffe Hall. This accomodation has granted us easy access to Elliot’s college, as well as to parks and markets, etc.

When can we come visit you?

In our prior season at Oxford we welcomed a number of visitors and, we would LOVE to welcome YOU while in Oxford! Our best times are during the Fall and Spring Terms. Hit that email link to talk more details!

What of Sarah and the kids?

Sarah, Emmaus, and Gloria are well established in an active community of young mothers and kids who also have husbands/daddys studying for ministry. They meet regularly over tea, play dates, and Bible studies, hosted by Wycliffe Hall and our home church..

What’s after Oxford?

Upon return, we look forward to discovering where we’ll be of greatest help within our next season of ministry. This could mean leading a church. It could mean serving as associates within an established church community. We’ll be sure to let you know!

Why not pastor a church now?

I believe a proper theological training should be a condition for formal ministry especially in a changing world. I believe this is how we can avoid things from getting off topic as they have in our current Christian culture. Before I make any further steps, I really feel a call to study the story of Jesus according to its original literary, theological and historical terms.

What’s your ultimate goal?

To know the Word of God and to develop ways of proclaiming the Gospel that are historically orthodox and makes sense to my generation and those to follow. I look forward to applying my work in the Local Church.

Why not study locally, in Oregon?

A great question. I’ve given ton of thought into this question. I, with the wise counsel of people I trust, have determined that this opportunity at Oxford will empower me to a greater degree as a pastor than other options at this time.

How are you funding this?

We are working on scholarships, a load of personal savings, and are highly dependent on the our support of our sending community. See our funding page for more details.

Will Emmaus & Gloria come back English?

“Chuffed to bits! And a fancy, cheeky, cheers from the darlings!!!”
